A Bit About Robert

When Robert ("Rob") Ranco joined the Lone Star Legal team in April, 2025, it was a sort of homecoming. Rob and Todd Kelly were previously law partners at another firm where Rob supervised the firm’s Complex Case Division. Rob also previously worked with managing partner, Robbye Kelly. In addition, Rob’s daughter, Tori, was already working at the firm as a Legal Assistant when he joined the team. This transition was an obvious move as nothing is more important to Rob than family and helping his clients. The decision to continue his career at Lone Star Legal was the clear choice.

Born and raised in Orono, Maine, Rob is a proud member of the Penobscot Nation, a federally recognized Native American tribe of which Rob’s great-uncle Howard Ranco was a two-time Chief. Rob grew up just a few miles from the Indian Island Reservation.

He attended Dartmouth College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music and English. He later attended a Master’s program in Ethnomusicology at the University of Texas, and earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Maine School of Law.

Experience On Your Side

Board Certified.png

Licensed to practice law since 2001, Rob is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. This designation is one of the most significant accolade a Texas lawyer can achieve, as only 6% of Texas lawyers are Board Certified. Rob’s singular goal since becoming a lawyer in 2001 has been to serve injured Texans. Rob’s entire practice since 2001 has been representing injured Texans against the most powerful forces in the state: large corporations, insurance companies and governmental entities.

Prior to joining Lone Star Legal, Rob has served other firms as a Partner, Director of the Complex Case Division, Director of Litigation, and as Senior Litigation Specialist. Rob has tried dozens of cases to jury verdicts in both state and federal courts throughout Texas.

Rob has secured multiple 7-figures results for his clients over the years. He and his cases have been featured in dozens of news stories throughout traditional and social media over the last decade.

In 2016 Rob secured the largest Civil Rights verdict in Texas for that year in Hernandez v. City of Austin, a case involving police brutality against an unarmed, innocent victim.

Philosophy

Through more than two decades of experience, Rob has learned that each client’s story and circumstances are unique to that client. It is essential to Rob and the team at Lone Star Legal that we learn about you and your story in order to get the result you deserve. Caring sets us apart from the rest.

Family

With a constant focus on family, when Rob is not in the office working for his clients he can be found going to concerts, traveling or enjoying a quiet night at home with his beautiful and talented wife, Tonia. Together Rob and Tonia have four adult children, Eric, Hanna, Tori and Kasey.
